unverified – details not yet reconfirmed
Desk-checked from Hillingdon Council route information and current Ruislip Lido information in July 2026. The published Ruislip–Harefield Yellow route is six miles; this 15 km card adds a Lido and woodland loop, which needs field-checking before being called a final line.

Once you arrive
Start from Ruislip village, then join the Council’s Yellow-route direction towards the woods. The Lido loop comes before the Harefield leg, so it is easy to shorten while you still have useful transport.

Prototype long version: Hillingdon Council documents the six-mile Yellow route from Ruislip to Harefield. This card adds the Lido circuit and woodland paths to make a full day; use the official guide and a live map rather than assuming one continuous signed 15 km line.
We never request your location. Google Maps can use it privately, if you have already given Maps permission.
The day for when a Tube ride needs to become a reservoir, a long quiet wood and enough space to uncoil.
Start with the Metropolitan line and Ruislip’s old village edge, then let the path become quieter by degrees. The Lido is the pause: water, woodland and coffee if the café is operating. Afterwards the day gets simpler again, following the published woods route towards Harefield. It is a low-stakes walk with a real point-to-point finish, which is rarer than it sounds.
Best for.
- A gentle first full-day walk
- Friends who want a café pause rather than a pub itinerary
- Anyone who likes the Metropolitan line but not the idea of going very far
Not ideal for.
- A hard-walking day
- People who want a direct rail finish
- A sunny summer afternoon at the Lido if crowds undo the point
The route.
Ruislip station → Manor Farm
Ruislip Underground station, HA4
From the previous point: Walk through the village to Manor Farm, then use the Council’s Ruislip Woods guide for the first woodland direction.
Start with the useful practicalities: coffee or water in town, then the small historic edge that makes the transition to woods feel earned.

Ruislip Woods
Ruislip Woods National Nature Reserve
From the previous point: Follow the posted route markers and keep the Council guide open. Take the slower, clearer public path rather than turning the route into a cross-country shortcut.
The quiet centre of the route: ordinary London has gone, but nothing is trying too hard to prove you are in the countryside.

Ruislip Lido – coffee and water
Ruislip Lido, Reservoir Road, HA4 7TY
From the previous point: Use the marked wood paths to the Lido, then make the chosen circuit before continuing north-west. Check the café’s current opening status before depending on it.
A strange and welcome middle: reservoir, beach edge and woodland centre. Have coffee if it is open; otherwise the water is still the pause.

Yellow Route towards Harefield
Ruislip Woods Yellow Route
From the previous point: Rejoin the Council’s Yellow-route direction after the Lido. Follow marked paths where available and use a live map at the joins made by the longer Lido variation.
The second half gets quieter again: woodland, path decisions and a gradual move away from the reservoir’s busy edge.

Harefield village → bus home
Harefield village, UB9
From the previous point: Finish in the village and use the live TfL planner to identify the current bus connection before committing to a long pause.
A low-key finish is the point. If a bus is due, take it; if not, have the snack you carried and let the day remain a walk rather than a search for a better ending.

Terrain
Mostly gentle woodland and reservoir paths with a few uneven or muddy stretches. The longer version is assembled from the published Yellow route, a Lido circuit and public woodland paths.
Mud and drainage
Woodland ground becomes muddy after rain. The Lido paths are firmer, but the connecting woods are not a pavement walk.
Exposed sections
The reservoir edge can be windy and bright; the woods provide more shelter but can stay damp after rain.
Road sections
There are short road approaches at Ruislip and Harefield. Use marked crossings and keep the live route open at the transitions.
Stiles
Expect gates and variable path surfaces; do not rely on a fully step-free or mobility-accessible route.
Food and water
The Lido has a café, but carry water and a snack. Café and visitor-attraction hours can vary by season.
Toilets
Use the station or Lido facilities when open. Toilets outside those points should not be assumed.
Mobile signal
Generally usable, though woodland cover can make mapping slower. Download the route information before you leave.
Pub timing
This is a café route, not a pub route. Do not build the timing around a Harefield venue being open.
Shortening
Use the published six-mile Yellow route from Ruislip to Harefield, or make the Lido a shorter out-and-back from Ruislip if you want to keep the day within easy transport.
Finish and easy exit.
Harefield village
Nearest practical station: Live bus connection from Harefield
Use the live TfL planner for the current bus from Harefield to the most practical Tube or rail station. Check it before the last kilometres, not after you are tired.
Earlier exit: Ruislip Lido – Use a live TfL map for the nearest current bus connection; do not assume the seasonal visitor services are operating.
Choose the shape of the day.

Full Lido + woods version

Notes before you go.
Best time
A dry weekday or early weekend start
Date notes
A generous second or third date route: the café stop gives shape, but the walk has enough quiet not to feel scheduled.
Friends
Good for two to four people who agree on a live bus check before the final leg. Keep the Lido pause short on a busy day.
Solo
An approachable solo full-day route. The real decision is whether the long version still feels useful after the Lido; the shorter route is equally valid.
Food and drink
Treat the Lido café as a bonus and carry a snack. Its hours can change, and the route should not collapse if it is closed.
When the plan changes.
If it rains
Choose the published Yellow Route or a shorter woods-and-Lido circuit. The woodland additions do not improve with deep mud.
If it goes well
Finish in Harefield and take the next practical bus. Do not add a random pub hunt just because the route has ended gently.
If you want to leave early
At the Lido, use a live TfL map for the nearest bus option; the cleanest planned fallback is to return towards Ruislip before you get too far north-west.
What not to expect.
Not an isolated wilderness, a swimming day or a route whose exact final bus can be guessed from an old timetable.
Practical warnings
- The 15 km version is a desk-checked assembly; field-test the Lido loop and Harefield finish before treating it as definitive.
- Check Lido café and facility hours on the day; the site is accessible year-round but attractions are not necessarily open throughout the day.
- Carry water and a snack for the woodland sections.
- Check the Harefield bus connection before you leave Ruislip, especially on Sundays or evenings.
The Metropolitan line can still take you to a day that has no business feeling this unhurried.
The rest of them are in the index, in the order I trust it.
